New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Three men were arrested after they were allegedly found carrying a trolley bag containing gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs 5.5 lakh at the Old Delhi Railway Station, police said on Thursday.
The accused were identified as Virendra (28), Jitendra (32) and Alok (30), they said.
According to police, during the intervening night of August 31 and September 1, a joint team of the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) was patrolling the station when it noticed the three men carrying a blue trolley bag on platform number 11.
The men were questioned about the ownership and contents of the bag but could not provide a satisfactory explanation, police said.
A search of the bag led to the recovery
of a pair of gold earrings, a gold mangalsutra, two gold rings, a gold chain and a gold locket meant for a child, besides around 500 grams of silver jewellery, including chains and anklets.
Identity documents belonging to the owner were also found inside the bag. The owner, Uma Devi, a resident of Lucknow, was contacted and identified the bag and jewellery as hers, police said.
A case has been registered at Old Delhi Railway Station police station. The three accused have been taken on one-day police custody remand. Efforts are underway to apprehend another accused, Narender alias Nandu, police said. PTI BM BM AMJ AMJ
