Chennai, Jul 26 (PTI) On the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Army paid tributes to war heroes at the war memorial here on Sunday.
Lieutenant General V Sreehari, the General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area of the Indian Army led the tribute by laying a wreath at the Victory War Memorial, Chennai, honouring the indomitable courage, unwavering resolve and supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers who secured India’s victory in the Kargil conflict, a defence press release said.
“Kargil Vijay Diwas stands as a timeless reminder that the nation’s peace, security and sovereignty are safeguarded by the extraordinary valour of those who placed duty above self and made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the Motherland,” the release
added.
The ceremony featured a tri-services guard of honour, followed by the poignant rendition of the Last Post, evoking a profound sense of remembrance and gratitude, it said.
Wreaths were also laid by Flag Officer Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area (FOTNA), Commodore Suvaratan Magon, Air Officer Commanding Tambaram, Air Commodore Tapan Sharma, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) District-5 Murugan, Veterans, Veer Naris and NCC Cadets, reflecting the collective homage of the Services and the Nation.
School children, NCC cadets, Government officials and serving personnel of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard joined the commemoration.
Similarly, the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC), Wellington commemorated the 27th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas with full military honours, paying solemn tribute to the courage, valour and supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War.
Brigadier Krishnendu Das, Commandant, The Madras Regimental Centre, led the wreath-laying ceremony and memorial parade at the War Memorial.
The ceremony reflected the Centre’s enduring commitment to honouring the legacy of the Kargil heroes and preserving the cherished traditions of remembrance and military service, the release further said. PTI SNR SNR ADB
