Sandeep Reddy Vnaga’s 2023 film ‘Animal’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Triptii Dimri and others, emerged as a massive box-office success. However, it faced severe criticism from many for glorifying toxic masculinity, and the film’s bold portrayal of violence. While the film left the audiences divided, Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has now revealed that he loved the film. The Ba***ds Of Bollywood star praised Sandeep Reddy Vanga for his ‘uncorrupted’ approach to the film, sating that his conviction and confidence shines through in the film.
Emraan Hashmi Praises Animal Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga
In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Emraan Hashmi praised Vanga’s film Animal and said, “If you see a film like Animal,
people might have a divided opinion. They are either loving the film or hating it. I loved the film, but it’s like, you can see his conviction there, he’s a director who kind of just went there all heart and he’s made the film that he wants to make, right? So it’s uncorrupted.”
He further added, “I saw the first scene of that film, I’m like, no one takes shots that way, he has not even cut over the shoulder for that first scene. And I was like, that’s so new, but there’s the confidence of a director, because the scene holds, and he pulled this off in a two-shot, and it’s a long scene, it’s like a 9-10 minute scene.”
He then revealed what cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran told him when they were shooting for the film ‘OG.’ “And Ravi K told me, there are not too many wide shots in Animal. I think that’s what he said, if I am not wrong. He’s like it’s audaciously different what the director has done,” revealed Emraan.
Last year in an interview with Instant Bollywood, Emraan Hashmi shared that he wished he could have been involved in Animal. “Despite the backlash and mixed opinions, I really enjoyed it and would have loved to be a part of it,” he said.
Hashmi acknowledged the criticism directed at the film but emphasised his perspective as an audience member. He noted, “I understand the reasons behind the backlash, but I generally watch films from the audience’s point of view. There were certainly questionable elements, but Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s unique vision and execution were noteworthy.” The actor praised Vanga for taking bold creative risks, which set “Animal” apart from previous films. He commended the director for daring to be different and expressed his appreciation for the film’s distinct approach
