Star India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has revealed that Australia allrounder Annabel Sutherland left her a heartfelt message after the former played a brilliant knock to take India into the final and end
Australia’s title defence at the Women’s ODI World Cup last week.
On October 30, Australia’s 16-match unbeaten streak ended with a five-wicket defeat to Harmanpreet Kaur’s India at Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
For Jemimah, the game was unforgettable; her brilliant 127 guided India to the highest successful run chase in Women’s ODI history. Despite Australia’s heartbreak, Sutherland reached out to laud her composure and character under pressure.
“After the game, it was heartbreaking for them to lose a semi-final. I know how much it means to Bellsy and how much she loves her cricket, even though she does not always show it,” Rodrigues said while speaking to the Delhi Capitals.

“She (Sutherland) messaged me saying, ‘The character you have shown throughout this tournament has been outstanding. You totally deserve to own that moment tonight,” Rodrigues said.
“I looked at that message and thought, what a person! They had just suffered the most heartbreaking loss, yet she still reached out to a friend to encourage me, even though we were opponents at that moment,” Rodrigues added.
For Sutherland, the World Cup was a standout personal achievement. She claimed 19 wickets in seven innings, including a five-for against India in Vizag and scored 117 runs, highlighted by an unbeaten 98 against Nat Sciver-Brunt’s England.
Rodrigues lauded her as one of the top three all-rounders in the world.
“Sutherland is a superstar. Right now, I would rate her among the top three all-rounders in women’s cricket, maybe even the best. I don’t know if she would want me to say this, but she truly sets an example,” Rodrigues said.
