IND Vs SL 1st Test, Galle Weather Update: India’s crucial two-Test series against Sri Lanka gets underway at the Galle International Stadium from Saturday, with the coastal venue hosting its 50th Test amid heat, humidity and a slow, turning surface.
India are eyeing a turnaround after losing two of their last three Tests. However, not only do they have to gear up for the tough spin challenge, but the tourists may also have to pray for clear weather with the forecast not very promising.
Rain is expected at some point over the next four days in Galle. There will be rain early on Saturday but should subside by the time the play gets underway. Expect an overcast sky.

The match and the series carry major World Test Championship (WTC) implications. India
are fifth after home-series losses to New Zealand and South Africa, while Sri Lanka occupy sixth.
With India’s red-ball fortunes under scrutiny and head coach Gautam Gambhir facing pressure, Shubman Gill’s side need a win.
India have played only one Test in 2026, against Afghanistan in June, and last toured Sri Lanka for Tests in 2017. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are therefore the squad’s most experienced players in these conditions.
India arrived 10 days early and beat Sri Lanka Cricket XI in a three-day warm-up. Their likely attack includes Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and either Manav Suthar or Saransh Jain, while Mohammed Siraj leads the pace unit in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence.
The major challenge will be tackling Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis. Gill, Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal will need strong technique, while Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan are competing for a place.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will be without Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka and have an inexperienced bowling attack.
Both teams desperately need WTC points to climb up the standings.
