India women’s cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has been going through a turbulent phase in her personal life. Amid weeks of speculation over her delayed marriage, Mandhana confirmed that she won’t
tie the knot with Bollywood composer Palash Muchhal. The Indian cricketer hasn’t revealed the reason and asked for privacy.
However, just a day after she made the announcement, Mandhana shared a video on her Instagram profile. Though the caption was strong-worded: “For me, calm isn’t silence – it’s control,” the video was a mobile phone advertisement, featuring Mandhana.
On Sunday, Mandhana took to her Instagram profile, where she posted about calling off her marriage.
“Over the past few weeks, there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that wa,y but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off,” Mandhana wrote.
“I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace,” she added.
Mandhana, who was part of India’s victorious ICC Women’s World Cup-winning campaign, signed off by expressing a shift in focus to her playing career.
“I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward,” Mandhana wrote.
Palash Threatens Legal Action
Palash took to his official Instagram account to address the situation, confirming the latest development and criticising those spreading “baseless rumour” about his personal life. Ever since the wedding was postponed last month, social media has been flooded with speculation about the “real reason,” despite the families clarifying that the decision was made after Mandhana’s father was rushed to the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack on the day of the ceremony.
