Deepak Chahar is done with the chit celebrations. The pocket note/chit celebration became one of the most talked-about trends during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The celebration first gained popularity in the IPL 2025 when Sunrisers Hyderabad star batter Abhishek Sharma displayed a message for fans during a match. The trend carried on to the current season and was kicked off with Mumbai Indians leg-spinner Raghu Sharma celebrating his maiden IPL wicket with a special note.
Then, Chennai Super Kings’ star batter Urvil Patel marked his half-century against Lucknow Super Giants with a note of his own. Akash Singh, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) seamer, also decided to hop on the trend after dismantling Chennai Super Kings’ top
order in his first match of the season.
Deepak Chahar Makes Fun Of Note/Chit Celebration
However, it was Chahar’s chit celebration that made one and many chuckle when the Mumbai Indians pacer dismissed Kolkata Knight Riders’ batter Finn Allen on Wednesday night on the final delivery of the opening over. As the ball crashed onto the stumps when Allen tried to punch to the off-side, Chahar broke into celebrations by pulling out an imaginary note from his pocket and displaying it to the crowd.

Viral Chit Celebrations Of IPL 2026
Raghu Sharma, appearing in his second IPL match, scalped his maiden wicket when he dismissed debutant Akshat Raghuwanshi. Sharma delivered a flighted ball, and Raghuwanshi could only deflect it back to the spinner, resulting in a straightforward caught-and-bowled dismissal. The bowler swiftly pulled a note from his pocket and held it up as his teammates gathered around him to celebrate his special moment.

“A very painful 15 years. By the divine mercy of Gurudev ended today. Thanks, Mumbai Indians (Blue and Gold), for giving me this opportunity. Ever grateful,” his note read.

Urvil Patel produced one of the most stunning knocks of IPL 2026 when he came out to bat against Lucknow Super Giants on May 10. Patel, who replaced the departing Sanju Samson, was a man on a mission, hammering four sixes in his first five balls. He eventually brought up the joint-fastest half-century in the history of IPL, equalling Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record of 13 balls to get to the milestone.
As he reached the landmark, Patel removed his helmet and folded his hands before pulling out a note. “This is for you, Papa.” The cameras captured the note that also had a sentence penned in Gujarati.
Akash Singh, the Lucknow Super Giants pacer, made an impact in his first match of the IPL season on May 15 by picking up 3 CSK wickets for 26 runs in four overs. After taking his wickets, Singh flashed a note that read: ” #Akki on fire – Akash knows how to take wickets in T20 game”.

It’s Time To Stop
The chit celebration trend has worn out its charm, with former cricketers, commentators and fans alike urging players to dial back the on-field theatrics. Dale Steyn, the former South African legend, found the celebration rather tacky.
“Time to put the papers away. It ain’t trending no more. Actually, to be honest, never really was,” the former fiery Proteas pacer posted on X.
Ambati Rayudu wasn’t having any of it. The former CSK player called the entire trend nonsense on ESPNcricinfo‘s TimeOut show and suggested the BCCI should consider banning it.

Mitchell McClenaghan, the former Kiwi bowler, also questioned the rising trend among youngsters and wondered why players with a handful of IPL appearances were already celebrating like they had conquered the world.
Sunil Gavaskar Trolls Akash Singh
Sunny Gavaskar has had it enough.
“I am asking, ‘Where’s the chit now?’ Chit is in the pocket, right? You got six deliveries in an over – you get wicket in maybe one ball. Five balls you are being clobbered. He has given 48 runs in 17 deliveries,” Gavaskar quipped on-air. The Indian great was criticising the LSG pacer, Singh, after he conceded 54 runs in three overs against the Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.
