Sunny Deol-starrer Border 2 continues its dream run at the box office, showing no signs of slowing down. The much-awaited sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border has not only shattered opening weekend records but has also delivered a phenomenal performance on its fourth day, which coincided with the Republic Day holiday.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 earned a staggering Rs 56 crore on Monday, marking its highest single-day collection so far. With this, the film’s total domestic box office collection has now surged past the Rs 177 crore mark, putting it firmly on track to enter the coveted Rs 200 crore club within just five days of its release.
Border 2 Sees Massive Republic Day Boost
The war drama enjoyed an extraordinary first weekend at the box office. The film opened
strongly on Friday with Rs 30 crore, followed by a significant jump on Saturday, earning Rs 36.5 crore. Sunday witnessed an even bigger surge, with collections touching Rs 54.5 crore. This represented a massive 49.32% jump in earnings, taking the film’s weekend total to Rs 121 crore.
However, it was Day 4 that truly set new benchmarks. Benefiting from the Republic Day holiday and strong word of mouth, Border 2 recorded its biggest haul yet with Rs 56 crore on Monday. The robust performance highlights the film’s appeal among mass audiences and its strong emotional connect, particularly during the patriotic holiday period.
With the current momentum, trade experts believe that the Sunny Deol-led film will comfortably breach the Rs 200 crore milestone in the coming days, further cementing its position as one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
Border 2 Beats Dhurandhar
In the process, Border 2 has also overtaken the opening weekend collections of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar. As per Sacnilk, Dhurandhar had earned Rs 103 crore in its first three days, while Border 2 stormed past that figure with ease.
The film’s opening-day collection of Rs 30 crore also surpassed Dhurandhar, which had opened at Rs 28 crore upon its release in December 2025. That said, Border 2 fell short of beating the opening-day records of Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava and Sunny Deol’s own Gadar 2, which had earned Rs 32 crore and Rs 40 crore, respectively.
Despite comparisons, Border 2 has carved its own space at the box office. News18 Showsha’s review of the film notes, “Comparing it to Border (1997) is inevitable. The original felt raw and lived-in, powered by simplicity. Border 2 is more polished, louder and far more ambitious. It doesn’t quite recreate the magic of the first, but it doesn’t disrespect it either. Instead, it feels like a modern extension, messier at times, broader in vision, but driven by the same emotional intent.”
The review further adds, “Border 2 isn’t perfect. It’s indulgent, occasionally overlong and visually uneven in parts. But it’s also sincere, emotional and unapologetically patriotic. It reminds you why war films still work, not because of explosions, but because of the people behind the uniforms.”
