Dumka (Jharkhand), Sep 5 (PTI) An octogenarian woman was allegedly beaten to death by her neighbours in Jharkhand’s Dumka district over the suspicion of practising witchcraft, leading to the arrest of six people and the detention of a 15-year-old girl on Saturday, police said.
Dhengi Murmu (85) was lynched in Nemanipathar village as the accused suspected that her alleged practice of the occult led to the illnesses and subsequently the death of a man in the village two days ago, a police official said.
“We arrested six women and detained a 15-year-old girl in this connection on Saturday. All the arrested accused are aged between 20 and 50 years,” Talajhari police station’s officer in-charge Sangam Pathak told PTI.
