Star South Africa batter Dewald Brevis has taken a massive dig at former cricketer Herschelle Gibbs, who criticised him after his inconsistent performances in SA20, adding that if he keeps thinking about what the ‘legends’ think of him, it won’t be of any use to him.
Brevis, who scored just 12 runs off 15 deliveries for the Pretoria Capitals against Paarl Royals in the SA20 on Saturday, January 10, shrugged off the criticism, saying that he does not care what former players say since they are ‘no longer playing’ the game.
Brevis made these remarks days after Gibbs criticised him on X, claiming that he lacks game awareness and often wonders what the coaches are discussing with him.
Would love to know what the coaches are saying to this Brevis boy
, his not showing any signs of game management even though he’s played plenty t20s already ..

In the SA20, Brevis has posted scores of 6, 12, 36*, 8, 12 and 12, totalling 88 runs across seven games. Even before the SA20, ‘Baby AB’ had struggled with the bat during the five-match T20I series against India.
“That does not bother me. If I think of those legends, or whoever they are, they are no longer playing. So yeah, it is their comments, so it does not affect me. I don’t even look at it,” Brevis said while speaking to the media.
“I am enjoying it out here. I am hitting the ball as I should. I am all good. There is always outside noise, whether you play SA20 or whatever you play. So whether it is World Cup or whatever, it stays a cricket game, it stays a ball, a white ball,” Brevis added.
Brevis is part of South Africa’s T20 World Cup team and will be eager to regain form ahead of the 20-team tournament. He has featured in 19 T20Is for the Rainbow Nation till now, scoring 469 runs at a strike rate exceeding 173.
