After the recent Gen Z protests in Nepal that escalated into violence and resulted in a governmental change, the Delhi Police have been placed on high alert. According to a report by Indian Express, the Delhi Police Commissioner
Satish Golcha has instructed three key units – the Intelligence Unit, the Operations Unit, and the Delhi Armed Police – to develop a “contingency action plan” to manage similar situations if they arise.
During a recent meeting, Commissioner Golcha directed two Special Police Commissioners to review the stock of non-lethal weapons and recommend the purchase of new technology or equipment as necessary, according to the Indian Express. Senior officials have noted this measure is in place due to concerns that large-scale, youth-driven, and leaderless protests like those in Nepal could inspire similar actions in Delhi.
The Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence Division) is direcred to collaborate with the Special CP of the Delhi Armed Police and the Operations Unit to formulate a detailed action plan, which will be presented soon.
Sources cited by the publication said that this plan highlights enhanced coordination between district police units, cyber cells, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Proposed measures include drone surveillance in sensitive areas, monitoring border regions, and rapid coordination with paramilitary forces to manage large gatherings.
The team will also suggest steps to counter false narratives on social media and activate social media teams. However, a Delhi Police spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
