The cousin of the woman government doctor, who died by suicide, on Sunday made serious allegations, claiming she had been under political and police pressure for over a year to produce forged medical reports.
The 28-year-old doctor from Beed district, Maharashtra, was posted at Phaltan Subdistrict Hospital in Satara. She was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan town on Thursday.
According to the cousin, the doctor was forced to prepare false postmortem reports and forge fitness certificates.
“She was under a lot of political and police pressure from the last one year. Medical staff at the hospital are also included in this. Everyone forced her to make wrong postmortem reports and forge fitness certificates. She was being forced to perform more
and more postmortems despite other officers being present at the hospital,” the cousin told the media.
The cousin also alleged that after her death, her body was taken to the hospital without the family being present, and no one was available to perform her postmortem until 6 am.
“We believe that when her dead body was taken to the hospital, she must have left behind another suicide note. She fought hard and wrote 4-page complaint letters. She cannot die with just a little note on her palm. We demand an SIT to investigate, in the presence of a woman officer from outside Maharashtra because state police officers can try to influence the investigation,” the cousin added.
The doctor had left a suicide note on her palm, in which she accused police sub-inspector Gopal Badane of repeated sexual assault and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment. Both were arrested on Saturday.
The incident has also sparked political outrage, with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi calling it an “institutionalised murder” and criticising the BJP-led government for what he described as its “inhuman and insensitive” response.
