Karachi, Jun 2 (PTI) Two coal miners were killed in a mine collapse in Pakistan’s Balochistan on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident took place in the Shahrag coalfield area in Harnai district.
The two miners could not survive a mine collapse in the Shahrag coal mines, and their bodies have been recovered and moved to the hospital, officials said.
“The miners were busy in excavation work in the mountainous area deep inside a coal mine when a massive section of earth collapsed, trapping them under the debris,” a rescue team official said.
He said rescue workers and police reached the spot after getting reports of the accident and cleared the debris, but both workers could not survive.
Coal mine incidents happen frequently in Balochistan, which is known
for its minerals and natural resources.
Sultan Khan, a representative of the Coal Miners Association, said that thousands of workers face hazardous working conditions due to inadequate safety measures, and such incidents happen frequently. PTI CORR AMS
