Actor Priyanka Chopra has spoken candidly about the scrutiny surrounding her relationship with singer Nick Jonas, recalling how speculation and rumours about their marriage once affected her deeply. In a recent conversation with Variety, the global star addressed the so-called “conspiracy theories” and constant public curiosity about the longevity of their union, emphasising that she no longer lets the noise dictate her emotional space.
Priyanka and Nick tied the knot in 2018 in Rajasthan in a multi-day celebration that blended cultures and traditions. Their wedding featured both Christian and Hindu ceremonies, reflecting their diverse backgrounds. At the time, their relationship frequently drew headlines — from discussions about their age difference
to commentary on their cross-cultural identities — and the chatter hasn’t entirely faded.
Opening up about public reaction, Priyanka said, “We’re eight years in. If people want to keep waiting for it to implode, that’s their choice. I stopped thinking about it. I don’t know what was it about us that rubbed people the wrong way. I think there was the intercultural nature of it — different countries, different religions, age gap. It was very hurtful. And we both, instead of looking out, just sort of looked at each other, and we were like, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ So it’s like water off a duck’s back now.”
Over time, the actor explained, the couple learned to centre their relationship on mutual understanding rather than outside perception. Today, they share daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, born in January 2022, and continue balancing demanding global careers alongside family life.
Priyanka also reflected warmly on Nick’s personality and the qualities that drew her to him. “We got married really quick, within six months of meeting. When I first married him. I didn’t know if it was even real. This part of him. Because I was like this is crazy. This is put on. But Nick has this absolute sincerity. It inspires me every day in a profession which requires you to pivot and become whatever you need to put on. He’s constantly sincere. His whole day, whatever the conversation is, he is sincere. He started working when he was really young. His parents are the most wonderful, levelheaded, absolute saints, so I can see where it comes from. But it’s such a disarming quality about him.”
On the professional front, Priyanka continues to expand her global slate. She is set to make her Telugu debut in SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, scheduled for release on April 7, 2027, and is also preparing for the second season of Citadel. Additionally, she will appear in The Bluff alongside Karl Urban, following her recent outing in Heads of State with Idris Elba and John Cena.
