Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a car accident that left two other people dead in Nigeria on Monday. The crash reportedly occured at the the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when the car he was riding in collided with a truck.
Images circulating online show the heavyweight boxer sitting shirtless in the back of a car, surrounded by what appears to be shattered glass. Local media reports say Joshua was travelling in the rear of a vehicle that crashed into a stationary truck.
Videos shared on social media from the scene capture the 36-year-old wincing as he tries to climb out of the damaged car.
Eyewitness Adeniyi Orojo told Nigerian newspaper The Punch that a Lexus and a Pajero were involved in the collision.
“Joshua was seated
behind the driver, with another person beside him,” he said. “There was also a passenger sitting beside the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. His security detail was in the vehicle behind them before the crash.”
