New Delhi, Jun 5 (PTI) Delhi Congress on Friday terminated with immediate effect the appointment of observers overseeing the party’s seven Lok Sabha units and 14 district units, weeks after completing a major organisational restructuring exercise in the national capital.
The decision was announced by Delhi Congress General Secretary (Organisation) Anil Bhardwaj on the directions of Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav.
“Observers presently working for all seven Lok Sabha and 14 districts to oversee the functioning of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) have been terminated with immediate effect,” Bhardwaj said in a statement.
He, however, clarified that observers appointed for all 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi would continue to
function as before.
The move comes nearly three weeks after the Congress appointed presidents for 14 District Congress Committees (DCCs) under its Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure in Delhi.
The DCC appointments were approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on May 15 following a district-level review exercise carried out by AICC-appointed observers. The observers had interacted with party functionaries and stakeholders and submitted reports before the district chiefs were named.
Party leaders indicated that with the appointment of district presidents and the completion of the review process, the role assigned to the Lok Sabha and district-level observers had effectively concluded.
The Congress had described the DCC appointments as a key step in rebuilding its organisational network in Delhi ahead of future electoral battles.
At the time, Yadav said that the newly constituted district leadership would carry both responsibility and accountability for strengthening the party and expanding its booth-level presence across the city.
The Congress had appointed 14 district presidents, including Siddharth Rao for Adarsh Nagar, Mohammed Usman for Chandni Chowk, Mangesh Tyagi for Karawal Nagar, Raj Kumar Jain for Babarpur, Vijender Choudhary for Patparganj and Mohinder Mangla for New Delhi district. PTI MSJ PRK
