An Indian woman living in London has shared why she would pick a £100,000 salary in the UK capital over Rs 50 lakh a year in Delhi. For her, the choice goes beyond money.
Jasleen Kaur said she misses her family and the ease of life in India. However, she feels that cleaner air, safety, better health and a healthier work-life balance make London a better fit for her.
Kaur Explains Why London Works For Her
In an Instagram video, Kaur spoke about the choice after someone asked her whether she would prefer £100,000 in London or ₹50 lakh in Delhi.
“£100k in London or 50 LPA in Delhi? Somebody asked me this in my DMs last week, and I went into a spiral because, well, that’s a tough question. I do miss the comfort and the convenience, and of course my family,
um back in India,” she said.
She also adds, “I had everything at my fingertips, I had Blinkit, I had house helps, I had uh my car, I did not have to use public transport and everything. But London gives me something that I don’t think can be found anywhere in Delhi. That’s the good air quality, that’s safety, I don’t have to think twice about stepping out and if I’m wearing enough layers, enough clothes, I don’t have to see how people are looking at me. I have a good work-life balance, I have a good support system, I am living in a walkable city, my health has improved so much. So, I think the choice is clear.”
Kaur pointed to the everyday comforts she had in Delhi, including family nearby, domestic help, a car and quick delivery services. But she said these were not enough to outweigh the benefits she now gets in London.
She Says Moving Abroad Means Giving Up Some Things
Kaur also described moving abroad as a trade-off between different parts of life. She said people may gain some things while giving up others.
Her caption read: “When you move abroad, you barter things for yourself. A big pay check for comfort. Air quality for car. Quality of life with quality time with family. Are these barters worth it? Maybe, maybe not. But right now, this is the choice I have made.”
