A non-resident Indian (NRI) living in Canada has shared his account of rebuilding his finances after going bankrupt with a debt of $30,000 (around Rs 27.5 lakh).
In a Reddit post, the Delhi-born man said he now has a net worth of Rs 26 crore at the age of 29, after facing financial difficulties earlier in his life.
According to the post, he moved from Delhi to Canada at 17 to pursue education and work opportunities. He said he grew up in Delhi in a broken family and was raised by his maternal grandparents. The man wrote that after facing financial setbacks abroad, he later managed to rebuild his income and savings.
‘Worked Door To Door Sales’ “In Canada, I worked door-to-door sales and really learned about sales and communication from that job.
It was very hard knocking doors in -20 degrees Celsius weather with a blizzard on top, if you know you know how Canada is in winters. I struggled and did what I had to,” wrote the man.
Despite sustained efforts at his job, the man encountered stiff financial troubles. He claimed he was facing debts worth over Rs 2 lakh at the age of 23 and approaching “literal bankruptcy”.
In his early years, he said inexperience led him to lose his remaining savings in futures and day trading.
“At 24, I was overweight, broke and quite frankly in very terrible condition. There would be nights I couldn’t sleep thinking about responsibilities, but the best thing about being in that situation is you can’t go lower than that,” confessed the individual.
How The Turnaround Happened
The Canada-based individual said he began rebuilding his finances the same year after turning to content creation on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. He added that he used artificial intelligence tools to improve content quality and expand its reach. “At 25, this got me my first 10 lakh months all pure profit,” the man said.
Learning from his mistake of investing unwisely in day trading, the man said he stayed away from stock investment but reinvested his Rs 10 lakh earnings in vending, AI and rental business ventures. “Never bought stocks. All my investments were either commodities like gold/silver and crypto,” he said.
The man ultimately hit the jackpot after he sold one of his rental businesses for 3 million dollars (approx Rs 26 crore).
“I want to share my story to give hope because when I didn’t have any, I never gave up and still believed,” he wrote. “Now I am 29, live in Florida, and life’s pretty good. I am still humble because I come from lower than being broke and know that all I have today, all I can lose and to someone who has nothing, only they can gain everything.”
