Akanksha Chamola Reveals Why She And Gaurav Khanna Are Divorcing: 'Mera Maternal Instinct Kabhi Nahi Tha'

Akanksha Chamola surprised everyone on Lock Upp Season 2 by revealing that she and husband Gaurav Khanna are heading for a divorce. While she first shared the news during the show’s premiere, the latest episode saw her open up in details about what led to their decision to part ways.

Akanksha Chamola Opens Up About Divorce From Gaurav Khanna

Speaking to fellow contestants Shreya Kalra and Sufi Motiwala, Akanksha shared that the biggest difference between her and Gaurav was their views on having children. She said she never felt a maternal instinct, even during their marriage, though she initially kept an open mind about the possibility.

Looking back at that phase of her life, she said, “Jab hum shaadi mein the, mera maternal instinct kabhi nahi

tha (When we were married, I never had a maternal instinct). But I was open to discovering it and it was never shut down. But gradually I realised that I am not meant for it and he was okay with it. But I guess, in time, that shifted.”

Akanksha explained that while Gaurav’s feelings changed over time, hers did not. She added, “Now, he wants to have kids and I can’t give him that. Nahi hein mere mein instinct, woh maine bohot pehle bol diya tha (I don’t have the instinct, I had told him long back). Jab mujhe realise ho gaya ki main bani hi nahi hu iss cheez ke liye maine tabhi hi bol diya tha ki main nahi karne waali hoon. So we had a discussion where I told him if you want to leave me then leave me fair enough. Log shaadi isliye karte hain lets be honest… 99% want to get married because you want to have kids and family aagey badhana hain warna aap kyu shaadi karoge (Most people get married to have kids and take forward to family lineage). He is not wrong on his part. And then Bigg Boss happened and I realised that isko bohot zyaada hain aur main nahi kar paa rahi hoon (He wants it badly and I am unable to provide him that). For me I don’t want to put him in that situation.”

She also made it clear that she does not wish to adopt a child either, saying she wants to remain child-free.

Gaurav Khanna Had Earlier Spoken About Their Difference

Although Gaurav Khanna has not reacted to Akanksha’s latest comments, the actor had previously acknowledged that the couple had different views on parenthood. During his stint on Bigg Boss 19, he admitted the subject was deeply personal and said, “It’s a very touchy topic. I love my wife; there are very few husbands who don’t listen to what their heart says and agree to what their wives want,” he had said.

The issue also resurfaced during the show’s finale week when Gaurav was accused by a reporter of using his wife’s decision not to have children to gain sympathy. The actor became emotional while reacting to the allegation.

Akanksha and Gaurav, who met during an audition, got married in November 2016 after dating for some time. Over the years, they were often seen as one of television’s popular couples. With Akanksha now confirming their separation publicly and Gaurav currently participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi 15, all eyes will be on whether he chooses to address the matter in the coming days.
