A dramatic stoppage-time strike from Stephen Eustaquio proved decisive, ending Bafana Bafana’s memorable campaign and sending Les Rouges into the knockout stage for the first time.
In another bit of interesting trivia, Canada became the first host nation to play a knockout game outside their country in the win.
With the match seemingly destined for extra time, Eustaquio produced the breakthrough deep into added time, scoring the only goal of the contest to seal Canada’s progression in the quadrennial showpiece.
