India ended their long wait for a track and field gold on Day 11 in Aichi-Nagoya, with the women’s 4x400m relay team striking gold on the same afternoon that Neeru Dhanda topped the trap podium with an Asian Games record. Eight medals in all, two gold, one silver and five bronze, pushed India’s overall tally to 53 (6 gold, 21 silver, 26 bronze), and Ankush Panghal booked a boxing final to guarantee more still to come.
Neeru Dhanda Strikes Gold, Backs Up Team Silver
India’s trap trio of Neeru Dhanda, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer had opened the day with team silver, combining for 328 to finish behind gold medallists China’s 346 in qualification.
Dhanda, who had topped the individual qualifying round in a shoot-off with Qatar’s Ray Bassil, then went one better in the final. She hit four perfect
series out of five, and after Bassil and Kuwait’s Hajar Abdulmalik were eliminated, closed out a flawless last round to finish on an Asian Games record score of 28, ahead of China’s Sun Yunong, for gold.
Women’s Relay Delivers India’s First Track Gold
Kiran, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi and Vithya Ramraj combined for a time of 3:29.69 to win the women’s 4x400m relay, India’s first athletics gold of these Games, capping a big week for Ramraj after her 400m hurdles bronze on Day 10.

The mixed 4x100m relay team of Gurindervir Singh, Sneha Shanuvali, Abinaya Rajarajan, Animesh Kujur and Harita Bhadra clocked 41.06 for bronze, and Pooja Singh cleared 1.84m for bronze in the women’s high jump.
Ankush Panghal Storms Into The Boxing Final
Ankush Panghal produced the result of the day in the ring. Down after losing the opening round to reigning world champion Fazliddin Erkinboev of Uzbekistan, he fought back to win the contest 4-1 on the judges’ cards and reach India’s first male boxing final at the Asian Games since Amit Panghal in 2018.
He is guaranteed at least silver, with a shot at gold still to come. Narender had earlier settled for bronze in the men’s 90kg after a 0-5 semifinal defeat to Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay, his second multi-nation medal after Commonwealth Games silver in August.
