Indians across the world enthusiastically celebrated the 77th Republic Day on Monday, exchanging greetings, singing the national anthem and patriotic songs, and participating in cultural programmes at Indian missions
abroad.
Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, members of the Indian diaspora joined embassy officials in unfurling the national tricolour and marking the occasion with pride and unity.
In a significant moment, the Indian Embassy along with the Indian community celebrated Republic Day in Yemen after a gap of more than a decade.
“Flying the Indian Flag High! For the first time in more than 10 years, Republic Day was celebrated in Yemen,” the embassy said in a post on X, sharing images from the event held at its office in Aden.

In China, Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat unfurled the national flag in Beijing and read out excerpts from President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation. The Indian Embassy said that chants of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai echoed during the celebrations, which also featured a thematic exhibition tracing the history and legacy of Vande Mataram. Cultural performances were also organised.

In Shanghai, Consul General Pratik Mathur unfurled the tricolour at a grand event attended by over 400 guests, including members of the Indian diaspora, the Chinese community and the diplomatic corps. The Consulate said that representatives from the European Union and 20 Consul Generals were present at the celebrations.
In Nepal, Charge d’Affaires Rakesh Pandey honoured the widows and next of kin of deceased Indian Army personnel and handed over Army Group Insurance Funds cheques worth NRs 72 million. A reception hosted by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu was attended by Nepal Vice President Ram Sahaya Yadav, Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai, among others.

The Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, read out President Murmu’s customary Republic Day address to the nation at a vibrant diaspora gathering in London.
Following the unfurling of the Indian national flag and a rendition of the national anthem, there was a special performance of ‘Vande Mataram’ to mark 150 years of the patriotic tune by singers from the Bengal Heritage Foundation in the UK.

“It’s always special to have the community here at the High Commission celebrating a national day, made more special this time by the fact that everyone participated in singing ‘Vande Mataram’ to mark the 150th anniversary of that national song too,” Doraiswami told PTI.
“It wasn’t just a performance to remind us of the song, but also reflected the value that the song has in our national mental memory,” he said.
In Singapore, Indian High Commissioner Dr Shilpak Ambule led the celebrations at the chancery, where over 1,200 members of the Indian community attended despite it being a working day. Cultural performances by students from Indian schools and patriotic music marked the event. Members of the Indian Air Force’s Sarang helicopter squad, in Singapore for the upcoming airshow, also joined the celebrations.

In Japan, Ambassador-designate Nagma M Mallick unfurled the national flag at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, followed by the singing of the national anthem and reading of the President’s address.

In Sri Lanka, High Commissioner Santosh Jha hoisted the tricolour at India House in Colombo and paid tributes at the Indian Peace Keeping Force memorial. Cultural programmes, including Kathak and Bharatanatyam performances by ICCR students, marked 150 years of Vande Mataram.
