NorthEast United FC pulled off a stunning upset, defeating reigning champions FC Goa 2-1 in their final Super Cup Group B clash on Saturday.
Chema Nunez (68th) and Robin Yadav (76th) struck for the Highlanders,
while Sahil Tavora (72nd) briefly restored hope for the hosts.
Though Goa had already sealed a semi-final berth, they controlled possession and tempo for much of the match — only to be undone by NorthEast’s disciplined defending and ruthless counter-attacks.
Manolo Marquez’s side threatened early through Ayush Dev Chhetri and Udanta Singh, but the finishing touch deserted them.
Then, against the run of play, Nunez coolly slotted home after a precise cut-back from Alaaeddine Ajaraie to give NorthEast the lead.
Tavora pounced on a rebound to equalise soon after, but parity lasted just four minutes as Yadav rose highest to head in from a corner, restoring the visitors’ advantage — one they held firm until the final whistle.
Jamshedpur Trample Over Inter Kashi
At Bambolim, Jamshedpur FC wrapped up their campaign with a commanding 2-0 win over I-League champions Inter Kashi.
Raphael Messi Bouli (37th) opened the scoring with a powerful header from a Stojanovic corner before turning provider late on for Manvir Singh (81st) to seal the result.
Inter Kashi, who struggled to build momentum, managed only a couple of set-piece chances through David Munoz. Both teams were already eliminated from semi-final contention.
