A 52-year-old French tourist was rescued after being stranded for nearly two days following a fall while attempting to climb a hill at the world-famous heritage site of Hampi, officials said.
The tourist, identified as Bruno Roger, slipped and fell on Wednesday evening around 6 pm while exploring a secluded area behind the Ashtabhuja Snana Hill, near the Ashtabhuja Snana pond. The incident occurred on the rear side of the hill, which is sparsely frequented by visitors.
Injured and unable to move properly, Bruno remained stranded in pain at the site for two days. He later managed to crawl towards a nearby banana plantation in search of help.
Local farmers spotted him and immediately alerted the police. Officials from the police department and the state
Archaeological Department reached the spot and rescued the tourist, carrying him to a government hospital for treatment.
Visuals from the site showed Bruno had suffered serious injuries to his left foot and the left side of his face. He told officials that he was staying at a homestay in Kadirampura village during his visit.
The French national said he survived on about 1.5 litres of water while stranded at the site until help arrived. Authorities said further details were being verified.
