Kaushambi (UP), Aug 1 (PTI) Kaushambi police has said it will store Ganga water to give to ‘kanwariyas’ who may accidentally spill it on their way to their hometowns, an officer said on Saturday.
The water from the river will be kept at police stations along the Kanwar route.
Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Prajapat said the force has announced the measure out of respect to the religious sentiments of the devotees.
“The Kaushambi Police has brought Ganga water from Sangam in Prayagraj and stored it in large containers. The water has been securely stocked at various locations, including police stations situated along the ‘Kanwar Yatra’ route,” Prajapat said.
A kanwar is a decorated bamboo pole which the carrier balances across their shoulders
with two pots of holy water dangling from each end.
The bamboo pole symbolises Lord Shiva, while the two water pots on either side represent Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu, Ashutosh Varshney, the convenor of Ram Naam Bank, a Prayagraj-based outfit, said. PTI COR NAV VN VN
