Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has confirmed he’ll be available to bowl in IPL 2026 despite registering himself as a ‘batter’ for the upcoming auction. Green, who is expected to be in huge demand at the event, said that his manager had a ‘stuff-up’ and ‘accidentally’ registered him as a batter.
Green is considered one of the most promising all-rounders in the world. He has the technique and range to play as a specialist batter across formats, while also possessing the ability to bowl at 140kph. The only drawback that comes with his rare skillset is the pressure it puts on his body, making it quite injury-prone.
Green underwent spinal surgery in 2024, which required a long rehab. He initially returned to competitive cricket as a specialist
batter, slowly building up bowling workload.
“I’ll be good to bowl,” Green said before Australia’s training session in Adelaide on Sunday morning, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “I don’t know if my manager would like to hear this, but there was a stuff-up on his end. He didn’t mean to say ‘batter’. I think he accidentally selected the wrong box. It was pretty funny how it’s all played out, but it was actually a stuff-up on his end.”
Green was first picked by the Mumbai Indians for Rs. 17.50 crore in 2023 and then traded to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the same price the following year.
This time, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are considered favorites to sign him because of their huge budget and specific requirement for someone like Green for their middle-order. Many believe he’s likely to be the most expensive player this auction, with a chance to come close to Rishabh Pant’s 2025 price tag of Rs. 27 crore.
“I’m sure I will be [watching], with a few other guys. They’re always good fun to watch. It’s a bit of a lottery where you might go, but also who might be in your team, so it’s always been fun to watch,” Green said.
Notably, according to IPL rules, irrespective of the bids in the auction, only Rs. 18 crore will go into Green’s account for it is the highest price any Indian player will earn in the year.
