Based on the complaint, the Panjagutta Police registered
a case and took two suspects into custody, news agency PTI reported, citing an official.
When questioned about the motive behind the assault, the police stated that the accused suspected the student had misbehaved with some female participants at the event. However, the investigation later revealed that no such act had occurred, the official clarified.
In his complaint, the student had alleged that when he was playing Dandiya at The Park Hotel near Raj Bhavan Chilla, some unknown persons approached him and asked his name. As soon as he told them his name, they suddenly started assaulting him, he had alleged, news agency ANI reported.
Police have categorically denied any communal angle, stating there was no evidence to support claims that he was attacked after revealing his name or community.
Meanwhile, Hindu organisations had called on Dandiya event organisers not to allow people from other communities into these events, suggesting they check Aadhaar cards and apply a tilak before entry.
The case is currently under investigation.
