An Indian woman living and working in the Netherlands has shared how the country’s work culture completely changed the way she looks at jobs, personal time and daily life. In a video posted on Instagram, she explained how people there take work seriously during office hours but also know how to fully disconnect once the day ends.
Her views have now started conversations online, with many users comparing European work culture with the pressure and long working hours often seen in India. Several people said they related to her thoughts on maintaining boundaries between work and personal life.
She Explains Dutch Work Culture
In the video, the woman said that working in the Netherlands changed her “fundamentally” as a person. She clarified that this
was the only international work experience she had, so it became her main reference point for understanding workplace culture outside India.
According to her, people in the Netherlands are both serious and relaxed when it comes to work. She explained that employees remain focused, punctual and fully present during working hours, instead of wasting time or pretending to stay busy.
“Working in the Netherlands has really changed me fundamentally as a person. FYI, I have not worked in any other country so this is my only baseline. Generally, people here are very serious and very chill about work. Okay let me explain.
You might already know, but we’re very big supporters of work-life balance. What that means is when we’re working during the day, we’re actually only working. We’re focused, we’re punctual, and we’re actually present in our work,” she said.
Work Stays At Work
The woman further explained that once work hours end, people switch off from office life completely and spend time on themselves, family and friends. According to her, maintaining this balance is treated as normal and important in everyday life.
“But when it’s time to chill and let go of work and the life component starts, we forget everything about work as well. Well, most of us do. We maintain clear boundaries between what it means to work seriously, of course, and what it means to have a good balanced life.
So every day I can disconnect from work and spend time with my loved ones, with my friends, and focus on my health and my well-being and actually chill,” she added.
Internet Reacts To Her Views
As the clip spread online, several users agreed with her observations and shared their own opinions about workplace culture.
