Mumbai, Jun 1 (PTI) Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Monday announced a statewide drive to plant 78,000 trees as part of the 78th foundation day celebrations of the State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
Sarnaik, who is also chairman of the corporation, urged the employees of State Transport (ST) to work towards building a “clean, green and efficient ST” and said depots, bus stations and employees across the state would participate in the tree plantation campaign.
He said the initiative aims to promote environmental conservation and spread the message of “one tree, one life”.
The minister also announced a fuel-saving drive under which each depot has been asked to save at least five litres of diesel daily, while stressing the
importance of maintaining cleanliness at bus stations, buses and staff facilities.
Sarnaik said the MSRTC would continue to focus on green initiatives, financial discipline, digital services and passenger-centric measures to strengthen public transport services across Maharashtra.
MSRTC is one of the biggest public transport corporations in the country, incorporated on June 1, 1948. It has a fleet of over 15,000 buses and 250 depots across the state. More than 50 lakh passengers travel on the buses operated by the corporation every day. PTI KK NSK
