Chennai, Sep 10 (PTI) AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday announced the party’s candidates for the October 6 bypolls to Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
A release from the party headquarters said that former MLA Kanitha Sampath will contest from Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district. She currently serves as a member of the party’s general council and joint secretary of the AIADMK women’s Wing.
For Dharapuram in Tiruppur district, the party has fielded K Banumathi. She serves as the joint secretary of the Tiruppur suburban east district women’s wing and is a former member of the 12th Ward of the district panchayat council, the release added.
The elections in the two reserved constituencies were necessitated
following the resignation of AIADMK MLAs K Maragatham Kumaravel and P Satyabama from Madurantakam and Dharapuram, respectively, before they joined the ruling TVK a few months ago. They had won from the seats in the April 23 state polls.
