Delhi Police on Tuesday said it accessed CCTV footage that places the Hyundai i20 used in the blast near Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi parked near the metro station at least three hours prior to
the blast.
CCTV footage shows that the i20 car involved in the Red Fort Metro Station blast had been parked for nearly three hours before the explosion, between 3:19 pm and 6:48 pm, news agency IANS said citing Delhi Police sources.
Investigators are reviewing the footage to identify who parked and later retrieved the vehicle, track its movement to the traffic signal and question the parking attendant as part of the ongoing probe, the news agency further added.
Investigators had earlier told CNN-News18 that police are now working to establish how the vehicle reached Delhi again before the explosion.
Meanwhile, sources also told CNN-News18 that the Hyundai i20, originally registered in Gurugram under the number HR26 and owned by Mohammad Salman, had changed hands multiple times before being sold to a resident of Shambhura village in Pulwama, identified as Tariq.
Delhi Police teams have informed their counterparts in Jammu and Kashmir and a team has now been dispatched to Srinagar to verify the Pulwama connection.
Salman, the first registered owner of the vehicle, told police that he sold the i20 to a buyer in Delhi’s Okhla area last year.
Investigators have since tracked the car’s trail from Okhla to Pulwama, where it was allegedly purchased by Tariq.
The Gurugram Police have detained Mohammad Salman for questioning, while Delhi Police and central agencies continue to piece together the chain of ownership.
The Hyundai i20 that exploded near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, killed at least eight people and injured several others.
