‘Start Learning All Over Again’: Woman Who Left India For US Says Returning To Work In The AI Era Wasn’t Easy

A woman who moved from India to the United States after marriage has shared how difficult it has been to restart her career after taking a break. In an Instagram post, she spoke about the challenges of balancing relocation, motherhood and a changing job market shaped by artificial intelligence.

She said she never expected that stepping away from work for a few years would make returning so difficult. Her story has resonated with many people who have gone through similar experiences.

She Left A Job She Loved

Jane, an Instagram user, said she had a job in India that she truly enjoyed before getting married. Since her husband was already living in the US, the couple spent the first two years of their marriage in a long-distance relationship while

she continued working in India.

Eventually, they decided that one of them had to relocate. Jane chose to move to the US, thinking that taking a short break after five years of working would be a welcome change.

“I had a career in India that I genuinely loved. Then I got married, and my husband was already in the US. We spent the first two years of our marriage in a long distance relationship while I continued working. Eventually, we had to make a decision. We couldn’t keep living in two different countries, and one of us had to make the sacrifice.”

She added, “After working for five years, a break actually sounded nice. I had no idea that stepping away from my career, even for a while, would make it so difficult to get back in.”

To improve her chances of finding work, Jane completed a Master’s in Business Analytics from the University of Denver. However, she graduated before receiving her work permit. She later completed a short internship but soon moved to another state. Around the same time, she also became pregnant.

Jane said she finally got her work permit during her pregnancy. Now that her baby is nine months old, she has started applying for jobs again.

“But the market has changed so much. AI has transformed the skills employers expect, and I often feel like I have to start learning all over again. Trying to do that while raising a baby hasn’t been easy.”

Instead of waiting for the right opportunity, Jane decided to focus on creating content online. “I’m not here asking anyone for money just because I have a story. I want to earn it by creating content that genuinely helps people. I want to provide value, build trust, and if that trust eventually becomes a business, I’ll be grateful for it. I don’t know where this journey will take me or if I’ll succeed. But I do know one thing. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”
