Indian spinner Shreyanka Patil said she’s heartbroken after suffering the cruel ankle injury against the Netherlands that ruled him out of the ongoing 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. In a social media post on Saturday (June 20), she said this injury had hit her the ‘hardest,’ but at the same time, she was ‘overwhelmed by the love’ she had received from her fans and motivated not to stop dreaming.
Patil badly twisted her ankle while trying to field a ball in her first over. She had to be stretchered off the pitch and eventually confirmed to be out of her second T20 World Cup. The Event Technical Committee soon approved Prema Rawat as a replacement for Patil in India’s squad.
“Well, not every dream comes true,” Patil said in the post. “No injury is
easy but this one has hit the hardest. But in these last couple of days, I have been overwhelmed by the love I have received. I have seen so many messages, so many edits, reels and I truly appreciate them all. I know I have enough of you wishing well for me to get through this as well. Not every dream comes true, but I’m not going to stop dreaming! And like I said last year, ‘heartbroken, but I will fly again,'” she added.
This setback has come just days aftershe opened up about her fight with depression due to the previous lengthy injury layoff. The off-spinner revealed that she even considered quitting cricket during a near year-long absence caused by a fractured finger, severe shin injuries in both legs, and a fractured thumb.
The injuries forced her to miss India’s victorious 2025 Women’s World Cup campaign and the 2025 WPL season, stalling what had been a rapid rise as one of India’s leading white-ball spinners.
