External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday to talk about cooperation between the two countries, according to the foreign ministry. Foreign Ministry
spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the Indian minister will come to Moscow with an official team for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Council meeting, which is scheduled for November 17-18.
She said, “On Monday, November 17, the Russian Foreign Minister will have talks with the Indian External Affairs Minister.” The two leaders will discuss current and future political cooperation and review important issues in their relationship. They will also share views on major international and regional topics, including working together in the SCO, BRICS, the UN, and G20.
Jaishankar is also expected to virtually open two Indian Consulates in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan in the Volga region, and Ekaterinburg in the Urals. Kazan and Ekaterinburg are becoming important centers for developing Indian expertise and advanced technology cooperation. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India around December 5 for annual summit talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin last visited New Delhi in 2021.
