Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah entered his name in the history books on Saturday (January 31) by becoming the first player in the world to record double figures for both goals and assists against a single opponent in the Premier League. The 33-year-old footballer from Egypt was included in Liverpool’s starting XI on Saturday for their Premier League match against Newcastle United at Anfield, and in the 67th minute of the match, he provided an assist to Florian Wirtz.
The goal by Wirtz was Liverpool’s third in the fixture, and they went on to score one more to secure a famous 4-1 win over the Magpies.
Salah, who has also played for Chelsea in the Premier League, has scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in 19 Premier League matches played so far
against Newcastle.
The assist by Salah on Saturday also helped him break Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney’s record for most goal involvements at a single stadium in Premier League history.
According to the Premier League’s official website, Salah has now been directly involved in 152 goals at Anfield in league matches. His record includes 107 goals and 45 assists, which is more than Rooney’s tally at Old Trafford and Henry’s tally at Highbury (151 each).

Rooney scored 101 goals and provided 50 assists at Old Trafford for Manchester United and Everton, whereas Henry finished his career with 114 goals and 37 assists at Highbury.
Konate scores on return
Defender Ibrahima Konate was back for Liverpool on Saturday and he scored the fourth goal for Liverpool as well in 4-1 win. According to Konate he returned to Liverpool ahead of schedule after the death of his father to aid the Premier League champions through a defensive injury crisis.
He broke down in tears after scoring late on in 4-1 win.
Konate had missed Liverpool’s three previous matches after being allowed compassionate leave.
But he said he felt compelled to help his team-mates after injuries to Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley left Arne Slot short on solutions at the back.
“I don’t have words to describe what I feel right now because it was a very difficult moment for me and my family the last two weeks, but this is part of life. It is hard to accept that and we don’t have the choice,” Konate told TNT Sports.
“I know that the team had some injured players, and the manager on the call said to take my time and I don’t have to rush back.
“With this situation, it was important for me to come back and help the team. I did today with the team at Anfield, the atmosphere was incredible today, and this is what we need until the end of the season,” the 26-year-old added.
