If you were planning to explore Jaisalmer’s old-world charm, cultural heritage and glorious historical sites this New Year, think again. A woman who visited the popular city in Rajasthan issued a warning
for fellow travellers: “Don’t come to Jaisalmer at this time!!”
Recording the extent of her ordeal in a video, this woman held her baby in hands and expressed her frustration at having to book a tiny and untidy hotel room at a shocking price of Rs 10,000 per day amidst heavy tourist turnout and lack of spacious and affordable accommodation facilities.
Traveller’s Frustration On Visiting Jaisalmer
“Finally, after three hours of search and hard work, we have found a room,” the woman said at the beginning of the clip while holding a little baby in her hands before she introduced the internet to a tiny room. Entering the hotel premises, the woman looked visibly disappointed and said, “This room is over before it could even start.”

As she switched to the back camera, viewers of the clip got a glimpse of the room’s near-exhaustive size and its untidy and dirty surroundings. To make matters worse, the woman revealed that her family was forced to pay “Rs 10,000” for their stay due to a lack of good alternatives available as the hotel authorities continue to exploit tourists amid the shortage.
“I would sincerely advise you do not come to Jaisalmer at this time!!” the woman said in disgust, even as travellers from all over India stand enroute to Rajasthan to celebrate the arrival of New Year’s with their family and friends.
‘Pizza And Netflix At Home Better Option’
The video of the woman expressing pain at having to book a terrible room facility at a shocking price to support her Jaisalmer stay gained heavy traction online. Many social media users reacted to the clip and came up with mixed remarks. While some echoed her sentiment, others suggested she should’ve made the bookings in advance.
“This is what happens when you go without booking,” said an individual.
Someone quipped, “Chilling at home with pizza and Netflix is a better option.”
“Loot is rampant in Jaisalmer; looking at the condition of the rooms, it doesn’t seem like the rent should be this high. The Tourism Department should set standards for hotels so that there is no arbitrary behaviour,” mentioned another person.
The video raises the issue of overtourism that continues to pose a serious challenge to various of the world’s iconic tourist sites. Many countries around the globe have been forced to impose tourism taxes on foreigners to safeguard the local communities in the long run and preserve the sites that boost their tourism economy.
