Ace India batter Virat Kohli was seen celebrating his first run in three matches with a fist pump after he took a single off the first ball he played in the third ODI against Australia, off Josh Hazlewood,
two days after he scored his second consecutive duck in the 50-over format, a first in his illustrious career.
In the first match, Kohli departed for an eight-ball duck and followed it up with another one in the second ODI, as his place in the 50-over setup came under scrutiny, with the 2027 World Cup still over a year away.
All eyes were on the batting maestro in Sydney, a venue where he went on to play his final Test in January, if he could break the deadlock. Kohli, who himself looked relieved after running the single, looked at Rohit Sharma and did a fist-pump.

Kohli got a standing ovation from the Sydney Cricket Ground crowd as he walked out to the middle, with the world sensing that this could be his last international game in the nation.
Even if Kohli’s career continues despite unimpressive returns in this series, India are not scheduled to travel Down Under for ODIs until the 2027 World Cup, which indicates that this may be his last appearance in Australia.
After the first duck, Kohli was expected to make a grand comeback in Adelaide in the second ODI. At this venue, he has scored five international hundreds and an average of 65 across formats.
But Kohli scored another duck in Adelaide and his glove gesture towards the audience who gave him a standing ovation while he walked off sparked retirement rumours.
If Kohli manages to score big in Sydney, one would assume that his career gets a new boost and he gets some much-needed confidence.
