New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) The Delhi government has decided to hike financial assistance for large Kanwar camps from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15 lakh and to continue free electricity up to 1,200 units, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday.
Gupta chaired a cabinet meeting where a proposal to increase the financial assistance provided to Kanwar committees for Kanwar Yatra 2026 was approved.
“Keeping in view the growing number of devotees, the need to provide them with adequate facilities, and the rising cost of running the camps, the government has decided to enhance the grant for Kanwar camps across all categories. The existing provision of free electricity of up to 1,200 units for Kanwar committees will also continue,” the chief minister’s office said
in a statement.
Under the cabinet’s decision, large Kanwar camps spread over more than 20,000 square feet and operating for six to twelve days will now be eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs 15 lakh, it added.
Financial assistance for camps spread over more than 20,000 square feet and operating for six to twelve days will be increased from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
“Similarly, assistance for camps of the same size operating for three to five days will be enhanced from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. The proposal is intended to reduce the growing financial burden on Kanwar Samitis and help them provide better facilities to devotees,” the officials said.
Gupta said the enhanced assistance takes into account both rising costs and the expanding scale of the annual pilgrimage.
“Grants for all other categories of camps have also been increased. The decision has been taken to ensure that Kanwar committees receive adequate support so that they can provide better, safer and well-organised facilities to devotees,” she added.
The government also clarified that the existing arrangements for the Kanwar Yatra will continue, including coordination among various departments, the single-window system, sanitation, drinking water, healthcare services and other facilities. PTI SSM SHS
