Veteran actress and dancer Madhumati, known for her performances in films like Ankhen, Tower House and Shikari, among others, has passed away at the age of 87. Trained in Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Manipuri,
and Kathakali, she was often compared to legendary performers of her time, such as Helen.
Soon after the news of her demise was shared, several Bollywood personalities mourned her demise and sent heartfelt condolences.
Akshay Kumar Mourns Demise of Mahumati
On Instagram, Akshay Kumar expressed grief on the passing away of his ‘first and forever Guru’ by sharing a throwback picture with her. He wrote in the caption, “My first and forever guru. Everything I know about dance, I learned at your feet, Madhumati Ji. Hara ada, Har expression mein aapki yaad hmesha saath rahegi. Om Shanti.”
According to a Papparazzi page, Viral Bhayani, citing a senior journalist and Madhumati’s close family friend, Chaitanya Padukone, she was ailing and passed away peacefully in her sleep, this early morning, October 15, 2025.

Apart from Akshay, actor Vindu Dara Singh also shared his heartfelt condolences. Taking to X, he wrote, “Rest in peace, our teacher and guide #Madhumati ji. A beautiful life led, filled with love and blessings from so many of us who learnt dancing from this legend.”

More About Madhumati
According to NDTV, Madhumati got married to Deepak Manohar, a well-known dancer, when she was 19. He was older than her and the father of four children; his wife had died before. While her mother admired Deepak, she was wary about the relationship. Nevertheless, she married him, despite her mother’s objections.
