Back in 2020, choreographer and director Remo D’Souza left everyone in shock after he suffered a major heart attack. It happened right after the COVID-19 pandemic had eased out a bit, and the industry was starting to get back to its normal routine. The news of Remo’s attack sent shockwaves across the industry. He was supposed to shoot with Salman Khan for Bigg Boss, but a series of unusual signs made him feel that something wasn’t right. In a recent interview, Remo and his wife, Lizelle, recalled the terrifying day and how Salman came to their rescue.
Remo D’Souza’s wife recalls the harrowing incident
Salman Khan is known for standing up for his people in their good as well as bad times. While speaking to Nayandeep Rakshit, Remo’s wife, Lizelle, recalled how Salman helped them in no time. She
said, “He was lying down in the gym and then sat in the lift. It felt unusual. When I asked him, he said it felt like something was stuck in his chest. I started analysing what he had eaten for breakfast. I even put my Apple Watch on his wrist — it showed ‘inconclusive’. Then I asked him, ‘Remo, do you want to go to the hospital?’ For the first time, he said, ‘Yes.’ And we left immediately. He was supposed to shoot for Bigg Boss that day.”
Lizelle revealed that she had initially assumed it was just a routine check-up. She thought the doctors would run a few blood tests and send him back home. She was on a call when the doctor approached her and said, “Ma’am, it’s a heart attack.” Shocked by the news, she looked at him and responded, “What?”
She further added, “By the time it was out, I called Salman Bhai because of the Bigg Boss shoot. Bhai called me back — he had already spoken to everyone at the hospital.” She shared that she usually considers herself a strong person, but in that moment, she felt small. Everything happening around her seemed like noise, as she knew one wrong decision could change everything. They thought it might be COVID, but that wasn’t the case. She added that Salman was constantly on calls, and when she looked at Remo, he was surprisingly laughing despite the situation.
Lizelle asked the Race 3 director, “‘What are you laughing at? They are saying you have had a heart attack!’ He just kept laughing. I think he couldn’t process it.” She also said that before the doctors took him into the operation theatre, she told him, “You won’t let me down,” and he replied, “I won’t”.
Meanwhile, Remo’s recent directorial, Be Happy, featured Abhishek Bachchan and Nora Fatehi. It also starred child actor Inayat Verma. It is available on Prime Video to watch.
