Sophie Devine didn’t just have a good WPL 2026 — she owned it.
While Gujarat Giants fell short of a finals berth, Devine walked away with the two biggest individual prizes on offer: the Purple Cap and the WPL 2026 Most Valuable Player award, capping off a season that reminded the world of her all-round prowess.
The 38-year-old finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, snapping up 17 wickets in nine matches, including the league stage and Eliminator. She edged out Delhi Capitals youngster Nandini Sharma in a tight race at the top, doing so in fewer innings and with trademark consistency.
And she wasn’t done there.
Devine backed up her bowling brilliance with a strong showing with the bat, scoring 243 runs in nine innings at an average of
30.38 and a strike rate of 148.17, with two fifties along the way.
In short, she did everything for Gujarat.
After being named Purple Cap winner and MVP, Devine was gracious, reflective and proud.
“I’m hugely honoured to win the Purple Cap for the TATA WPL 2026, but I’m really happy to be able to perform for my team,” Devine said.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it through to the finals, but I just want to say a huge thank you not only to the WPL but also to all the fans and to the Gujarat Giants. It’s been an awesome season for us, so thank you very much to everyone who came along and supported not only me, but the team as well.”
Statistically, Devine’s season was elite. She topped the wicket charts with an average of 16.00, an economy of 8.28, and best figures of 4/37.
The 2026 WPL wrapped up on February 5, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru beating Delhi Capitals by six wickets in the final at Vadodara. But even without a trophy, Devine’s campaign stood tall.
With a T20 World Cup in the UK on the horizon, this was a statement made — Devine still has it.
