The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of condolence and remembrance, expressing appreciation for his words on the legacy of former Bangladesh prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
In a post on social media platform X, the BNP wrote, “We sincerely appreciate your message of condolence and remembrance, Honourable @narendramodi. Begum Khaleda Zia’s contributions to Bangladesh–India relations will be remembered.”

This comes after PM Modi on Tuesday
extended condolences on the death of Begum Khaleda Zia. He also recalled meeting her in 2015 and hoped that her vision and legacy would continue to guide the India-Bangladesh relationship.
Taking to X, PM Modi had said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka. Our sincerest condolences to her family and all the people of Bangladesh. May the Almighty grant her family the fortitude to bear this tragic loss.”
“As the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh, her important contributions towards the development of Bangladesh, as well as India-Bangladesh relations, will always be remembered.”
“I recall my warm meeting with her in Dhaka in 2015. We hope that her vision and legacy will continue to guide our partnership. May her soul rest in peace,” he added.
Bangladesh’s first woman PM and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at Dhaka’s Apollo Hospital, the party said.
In a brief statement, the BNP confirmed that the veteran leader had passed away after battling multiple health complications.
