Rajkumar Hirani’s son, Vir Hirani, is set to make his digital debut in filmmaker Shakun Batra’s upcoming project, according to industry sources. The film will feature Vir in the lead role, while actress
Wamiqa Gabbi is reportedly in talks to play the female lead.
“The prep-work for Shakun’s next is going in full swing. The director’s name and other details have been kept under wraps for now. The makers are aiming to take it on floors in the first quarter of 2026,” Bollywood Hungama reported.
Regarding the female lead, a source added, “Wamiqa has shown interest in the film and is presently just sorting out all the dates to come on board. Working with Shakun is a dream for most actors, as he often comes up with unique cinema that has scope for performance. The paperwork with Wamiqa is expected to close within a fortnight.”
Earlier reports from PeepingMoon revealed that Vir will star in a romantic drama produced by Hansal Mehta’s True Story Films. The project boasts an impressive creative lineup, with acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery making his Hindi directorial debut. Production is expected to commence in February 2026, and the film will feature music by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman.
Vir Hirani, a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), has already made a mark in digital storytelling. He recently appeared in Pritam Pedro, Rajkumar Hirani’s first web series for JioHotstar, alongside Arshad Warsi and Vikrant Massey. Prior to this, he gained attention for his 35-minute monologue in Feroz Abbas Khan’s Letters of Suresh.
Hansal Mehta’s upcoming romantic drama will serve as Vir’s official cinematic debut. The collaboration of Mehta, Pellissery, and Rahman promises a visually rich and emotionally resonant love story.
Hansal Mehta, who is producing the film as one of his flagship projects, recently premiered the biographical series Gandhi at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). He is also working on a Netflix business drama featuring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma.
Vir Hirani previously directed Return Gift (2013), which was screened at the 18th International Children’s Film Festival, India (ICFFI).
