The Bengaluru outlet of Pizza 4P’s has caught people’s attention for an unusual reason. The store name, when written in Kannada, reads as “Pizza for Peace,” which left many people curious. Some thought it was a translation error, while others found it meaningful and interesting.
As the discussion grew, the brand’s founder, Masuko Yosuke, stepped in to explain the story behind the name. He shared that the Kannada version was not a mistake at all, but actually linked to the idea behind the brand itself.
The Name Has A Deeper Meaning Yosuke explained the meaning in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Regarding the Kannada translation of Pizza 4P’s, I’ve received an unbelievable number of comments (most of them positive), and it’s truly an honour.
For those who might not know yet, let me give you a bit of background.” He then revealed what “4P’s” stands for. “‘4P’s’ comes from ‘For Peace’. I named it with the hope of providing Inner Peace (peace of mind). It ties into our vision of ‘Make the world smile for peace’. From my own experiences, I believe that happiness is ultimately something you decide for yourself, and that sentiment, of wanting to be a place that can spark that, is woven into the name.” How The Journey First Began Sharing his early days, Yosuke spoke about how everything started in a simple way. “It all started when I built a pizza oven with a mate and served it up to everyone, which led me down this path.” He also opened up about a difficult time in his life. “Back then, the death of a friend triggered my depression, but I realised that ‘bringing joy to others gives my life value’, so I opened up with the mate I built the pizza oven with, and my wife.” At the time, fresh mozzarella cheese was not easily available in Vietnam. So, he decided to learn on his own. He searched for farms, watched videos online, and spent six months experimenting in his home kitchen. These efforts finally led to the opening of his first pizza shop. Challenges Along The Way The journey was not smooth. While setting up his second outlet, he faced a major issue. “After that, it went from private equity with a Vietnamese investor to now having a fund from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as a shareholder,” he shared, explaining how things later improved. Then came the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced him to shut down all 30 of his stores. He said he had to “borrow millions from private investors to somehow scrape through,” showing how tough that period was for the business. Why India Holds Special Meaning Yosuke also shared why expanding to India was important to him. “My decision to expand to India has personal reasons too. Long before starting 4P’s, during a time when I was lost in life, I spent about six months practicing yoga and meditation in Rishikesh in northern India, and even tried my first week-long fast. India is the place that literally changed my life. That’s why, with such special feelings, I chose this land.” He added that he has now spent a few years in India with his family and is closely involved in the work here. “Now, entering our third year here with my family, including my two daughters. It’s a tough market, so I’m diving in headfirst myself. We’ve locked in the location for our third store in Bangalore, and we’re planning an opening in Mumbai’s BKC in 2027. We’re crafting the menu through repeated tastings with locals.” Plans For Global Expansion Looking ahead, Yosuke shared his bigger plans for the brand. “Next up after India: from “Asia’s Pizza 4P’s” to “The World’s Pizza 4P’s.” With that in mind, we decided on a New York outpost.” He also described the idea behind the new store. “The theme for the New York store is “Earth Child”, a worldview where people and nature feel as one, we call it “oneness”, and we’re aiming to embody that in the store design.” “Working alongside Michelin-starred chefs and creators I admire, we’re pouring effort into everything from the menu to the creative elements, all aligned with this theme. I think it’ll be a Pizza 4P’s like nothing before, so I’m genuinely excited. We’re building a store that will draw people from around the world to make the trip to New York.”
