Tilak Varma scored his maiden IPL century (101 from 45 balls), and Ashwani Kumar picked up 4 wickets for 24 runs in four overs to help the Hardik Pandya-led side end their losing run of four matches.
The defeat by 99 runs against Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad on Monday is GT’s biggest defeat in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Their previous biggest defeat in the IPL was by 83 runs, which they suffered against Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 edition of the IPL.

GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and invited MI to bat first, after which Tilak helped them post a total of 199 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets. In reply to the 200-run target, GT could only manage to score 100 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets in 15.5 overs.
For MI, Ashwani Kumar bowled four wickets and picked up 4 wickets for 24 runs in his first match of IPL 2026, and two bowlers – Allah Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner – accounted for the dismissal of two GT batters each.
