Three of family drown in Assam's Nalbari

Apr 19 (PTI) Three members of a family, including two sisters, drowned in a river in Assam’s Nalbari district on Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred at Niz Barshiral village.

Two of the deceased, Pinki Das and her cousin Rohit Das, had come to their sister Kuntu Das Deka’s residence from Guwahati. After lunch, the three had gone to the riverside where Kuntu Das Deka entered the water for a bath, police said.

They were caught in the tide in Pagladia river, and eventually drowned, a police officer said.

Locals launched a search operation and fished out the bodies, he said.

The bodies were taken to Nalbari Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination, police added. PTI CORR SSG RBT
