A United Nations-linked diplomat has resigned from his position, alleging that the international body is preparing for a scenario involving the possible use of nuclear weapons in Iran, a claim that has not been independently verified and has not drawn any official response from the UN.
Mohamad Safa, who served as the main representative of the Patriotic Vision Organisation (PVA) at the United Nations, announced his resignation in a post on X, accompanied by a detailed letter outlining his concerns.
PVA holds special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and Safa has been associated with the organisation for over a decade, including serving as its executive director since 2013.
Allegations Against UN Officials
In his statement, Safa claimed that
certain senior figures within the United Nations were influenced by what he described as a “powerful lobby,” and accused them of steering decisions in a direction that could lead to catastrophic consequences.
I don’t think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran.
This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it. It’s not some low… pic.twitter.com/BnzB4F3001

“I don’t think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran,” he wrote.
He warned of the human cost of such a scenario, pointing to Tehran’s large population and urging people to consider the impact of nuclear conflict on civilians.
Resignation and Public Appeal
Safa said he chose to resign after “much reflection,” adding that he could not continue in his role if it meant being associated with what he described as a potential “crime against humanity.”
“I gave up my diplomatic career to leak this information… in an attempt to prevent a nuclear winter before it is too late,” he said.
He also called on people worldwide to protest and raise awareness, urging collective action to prevent escalation.
Claims of Pressure and Threats
In his letter, Safa alleged that he had faced criticism, censorship, and even threats after expressing dissenting views, particularly following the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent war.
He claimed that some UN officials had avoided holding certain countries accountable for violations of international law, and that he had been sidelined for raising concerns.
Safa also said he had been considering resignation since 2023 and had endured mounting pressure over the past three years.
No UN Response Yet
The United Nations has not issued any official comment on Safa’s resignation or the allegations he has made.
Given the seriousness of the claims, particularly those relating to nuclear weapons, the absence of independent verification or confirmation leaves the situation unclear.
The episode nevertheless highlights growing tensions, mistrust, and competing narratives surrounding the role of international institutions amid the escalating conflict in West Asia.
