Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee was fined 10 per cent of her match fees and issued one demerit point on Wednesday for breaching the WPL Code of Conduct during their match against Mumbai
Indians.
Lee admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct, which pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment during the match. For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding, according to a WPL release.
The incident took place during the 11th over of Delhi’s chase of 155 when Lee, on 46, was adjudged stumped after a prolonged third-umpire review. Television replays showed her bat briefly lifted off the crease as wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous removed the bails, leading to Lee’s dismissal just four runs short of her third half-century of the season.
Although visibly unhappy with the decision, Lee kept her reaction measured at the presentation ceremony, acknowledging the skill of the opposing keeper but refraining from further comment.
Delhi Capitals ultimately secured a seven-wicket victory, thanks to skipper Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten 51 off 37 balls, anchoring their chase. This win keeps Delhi Capitals in strong contention for a playoff spot, with four teams now tied on four points, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru continue to lead the table.
