Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya is set for a return to action after a bout with viral fever, with the star allrounder expected to feature in his team’s clash against a high-flying Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday in Guwahati, according to a report in The Times of India.
Pandya travelled with the team after the afternoon match in Delhi and is all set to resume training, having been out of action for the past few days.
“He (Pandya) isn’t well, does not look good, so he wasn’t fit for today’s game. So, just getting into his shoes today,” Suryakumar Yadav had said at the toss of the match against the Delhi Capitals.
As per the report, the situation was not as serious as it appeared at the toss, with the call to rest Pandya taken as a precaution, given
the tournament is still in its early stages.
The franchise was all set to fly out of Delhi after the match and the MI management chose not to take any risks with Pandya. Although he travelled with the team, he missed both training sessions ahead of the game because of illness.
Meanwhile, impact sub Sameer Rizvi stayed red-hot with another fine half-century as an all-round Delhi Capitals outclassed Mumbai Indians by six wickets in their first home match of IPL 2026 in Delhi on April 4.
Chasing 163, the 22-year-old Rizvi (90 off 51 balls) took apart the MI attack with a fluent innings studded with seven boundaries and as many sixes.
After another top-order wobble, Delhi Capitals recovered through a 66-run partnership for the third wicket between Rizvi and Pathum Nissanka, with the latter scoring 44 off 30 deliveries.
Rizvi then added 78 runs with David Miller (17 not out) as the hosts completed the chase with 11 deliveries to spare.
