Bengaluru Police have found strong evidence that the gang behind the Rs 7-crore cash van robbery carried out a detailed recce of the area before the heist. Investigators pieced together the group’s movements using CCTV footage from Jayanagar and Dairy Circle, revealing how the suspects surveyed the location days before the crime.
According to police sources cited by India Today, the men were captured on CCTV near the Dairy Circle flyover two days ahead of the robbery. The footage shows them spending time at a bar in the neighbourhood and moving around the area, closely inspecting the stretch where the van was later intercepted.
On November 17, cameras again recorded the suspects riding a bike through the locality, stopping for tea at a nearby
shop and walking around the bar road and the flyover. They avoided certain camera points, indicating familiarity with the layout. Officers say this pattern confirms that the recce played a key role in planning the robbery.
These findings, first reported through India Today’s new leads, helped police identify one of the accused by matching the CCTV frames with photographs of a previously arrested offender. Investigators now believe the same gang may have been involved earlier as well.

Police teams from Siddhapura station, multiple city divisions and the Central Crime Branch have mapped the suspects’ path across South Bengaluru. A citywide search is underway.
The robbery itself took place shortly after the CMS cash van left the HDFC Bank branch in JP Nagar. The gang, posing as Central Government tax officers, stopped the van near Ashoka Pillar, forced the staff into another vehicle with the cash boxes, and fled towards Dairy Circle.
With the recce trail now forming the core of the investigation, police are examining mobile data, CCTV logs and vehicle movements, including the use of a grey Innova that may be linked to earlier ATM cases.
